Satwant m Chaudhary Kartar Singh

Satwant was Ramrakhi (or Rakho) before her marriage to Chaudhary Kartar Singh of Sialkot, a renowned criminal lawyer, who passed away when she was 47. Satwant gave birth to four children. Her first child was born when she was 17. She lost two children early and the third, Inderjit, in the prime of his life. Her son left behind a wife and an infant girl.  Satwant lived with her daughter-in-law and granddaughter.
Satwant was the apple of the eye of her brothers. She was outspoken but kind and generous. Though not given to expressing emotions, Satwant always stood up for the underdog! Her friends swore by her, for she had helped many prepare dowries for their daughters, haggling hard to ensure the best price.
Life prepared Satwant for every eventuality. After she crossed seventy, Satwant's travel case always included a new outfit, her favourite perfume, and Rs 5000.  She wanted to ensure that in the event of her death during her travels, she would look and smell good and that the money for her cremation would be readily available (in those days, one relied on a bank to withdraw cash).
